![]() i was in a hurry, this disk with unrepaired superblock problems is currently in use. ![]() The following procedure describes how to repair a superblock in a JFS file system when the problem is caused by a corrupted magic number. Most damage to the superblock cannot be repaired. You can fix a corrupted magic number in the file system superblock. ( btw it uses centos4, but i'd guess it's still same & this forum more busy) ) If the superblock of a file system is damaged, the file system cannot be accessed. took disk from other pc, quickly added some symbolic links. ( well, i mounted it from other disk, fsck'd it there, it did have some duplicate blocks, but i was clueless about this "superblock could not be read", did not have internet access. No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sdc1 If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (an not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: ![]() "The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem.
